Open Space Saturdays: August 7th Edition

August 7, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 11:00 pm

Open Space Saturdays is an outdoor arts and community space activating the outdoor areas around Massey Theatre and runs every summer Saturday from 11am to 10pm.

This Saturday’s programming includes…

Kid’s Stuff!
11:00 am-3:00 pm: Kids activities including bubbles and outdoor games such as Jenga, bean bag toss. Massive chalk playground canvas
12:00 pm: Judy Lea

Judy Lea has been singing, writing silly songs and performing them since she was a kid herself. She’s been a children’s performer, a rock musician, a music educator and now a grandmother. She recently retired from teaching music with the Burnaby School Board and finally has more time for writing and performing again.

Judy’s first CD, Too Much Work To Do, was nominated for ‘Best Children’s Album of the Year’, West Coast Music Awards. She’s written many songs since, some silly, some heartfelt and some passionate pleas for Planet Earth. Two years ago, she created her first illustrated book, entitled, Please Don’t Go In the Dryer! about a kid like her with an overactive imagination and a kitten who won’t listen! You’ll find it in the Burnaby Public Library, and through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Chapters/Indigo (and, of course, Judy Lea)!

Let Judy’s wild imagination take you along on a sometimes surprising, delightful and hilarious musical ride.

They proudly trace their ancestry to the lands of the Izon/Ijaw and Shona speaking peoples (Nigeria and Zimbabwe). Tonye’s shows and workshops are connected and intimate experiences, and evoke a kind of vulnerability that we all hunger for.
