Theatre open: A note About COVID-19

By Erin Jeffery In Uncategorized March 11, 2020

Dear Theatre Clients and Supporters,
We are all concerned about the emergence of COVID-19 – and we know many are contemplating whether or not to continue to attend performances at this time.

Attendance has been capped for all events to ensure they are under 250 and that people can spread out in the theatre. The events will proceed unless the organizers choose to cancel or governmental directives change.

All government directives are being adhered to and surpassed in many cases.

Massey Theatre is working with our local school district and municipality to ensure we are guided by evidence-based recommendations published by Vancouver Coastal Health, BC Centre for Disease Control, and the Public Health Agency of Canada.
The following measures are in place to mitigate risks:

  • Communications messages encouraging members of the public experiencing fever, cough or difficulty breathing to stay home.
  • Encouraging audience members to spread out in the theatre to create space between parties and increase enjoyment of the program
  • Supplying lobby areas and entrances with hand sanitizer liquids and wipes
  • Signage in washrooms, dressing rooms, staff areas encouraging frequent handwashing
  • Increased sanitizing of touch points such as doorknobs, door handles, hand rails and seating
  • Making certain that our staff and the staff of the venues we utilize are washing hands frequently and practicing safe ways of interacting with our audience members.

Here are some things you can do to increase your own personal safety:

  • Do not touch your face
  • Do not shake hands – bump elbows
  • Use a key or other item to push elevator buttons
  • Use a sleeve to grasp handles and latches

Should any new governmental directives require cancellation or closure audience members will be advised and messages will be posted on the website.  We encourage you to continue to enjoy performances with an eye to your own self care and safety.  There are so many wonderful and uplifting opportunities to be found at the theatre.
