LOLGBT Comedy Workshop for Youth

By Erin Jeffery In Events January 25, 2022

The Massey Theatre & Eighth & Eight Creative Spaces is presenting a FREE weekend workshop for youth (ages 12-19) led by Ryan Leslie Fisher, a local LGBTQ2+ comedian and actor.

This four-day comedy workshop that takes place over two weekends. The students will play around with sketch comedy the first weekend and start writing their own script and then continue developing the script and characters the 2nd weekend. If they are not available all four it is ok, but they will have the best experience if they attend all the days

The sessions will have a focus on queer themed sketch comedy, meaning every joke is a gay joke where the punchline isn’t being gay. These workshops will cover every step of the process from inspiration to script writing to performance, allowing the participants to develop their voice, and take a critical look at short form comedy that can be used on digital platforms such as TikTok.

Ryan Fisher is also Dandy ,an LGBT Tiktok sensation with almost half a million followers. As a leader of The Lavender Society, a “secret” organization of queer folks, Dandy’s comedy supports a safe space for LGBTQ2+ on the social media platform and promotes a shared community.
