Grooving Foundations with Sophia Gamboa
Mondays 6:00 PM-7:30 PM
FREE
A foundational Hip Hop dance class prioritizing BIPOC youth, immigrants, and refugees under 21.
In these classes, dancers will be guided through a series of prompts, dance, and listening exercises that invoke realizations and mindfulness in the ways bodies and voices have been restricted and colonized. These exercises will teach the students the foundational grooves of Hip Hop dance and together students and instructors will explore what it means to stretch foundation and still remain rooted to its core. The curriculum will critically engage in ancestral reconciliation and the decolonization of the mind, body, and spirit. Students will learn how to deconstruct foundational ideas/dance steps into their own freestyle movement and expression.
Dancers need to bring indoor shoes. Registration limited to allow for appropriate social distancing. No dance experience necessary.
