Booking Procedure
Thank you for your interest
in booking an event at Massey Theatre. When we know more about your
show and its particular needs we will be able to give you specific
cost estimates. For the present time, here is a basic checklist
of issues to be aware of:
Massey Theatre is a fully
equipped, 1260 seat facility with 855 seats in the orchestra and
the remainder in the balcony. The commercial rate for up to an eight-hour
period Monday through Thursday is $1782.00 and Friday through Sunday
& Holidays is $2058.00. This includes access to all equipment
in the theatre, the services of our house manager, a crew of ushers,
and concession staff. Technical staff scheduled to work on your
event are billed as an extra charge. The eight-hour period begins
when our technicians commence work to prepare for your show and
ends when the theatre has been restored to its pre-show condition
and our technicians have left the building.
For any hour of overtime
in the rental of the facility (after 8 hours), you will be charged
a rate of $210 per hour for the Monday through Thursday, and $230
per hour for the Friday through Sunday & Holidays commercial
rate.
The theatre requires three
technicians to operate a show, to meet this minimum requirement
the theatre will hire one Crew Chief at $35/hr, as well as a Sound
Operator and Lighting Operator at $25/hr, plus any overtime. Other
technicians (e.g. additional Loaders or Followspot Operators) can
be hired at $20/hr at your request. The Canadian Labour Code requires
all staff to have a meal break in every 8-hour shift, so please
plan for a break. The Technical Director on duty will designate
the break in consultation with you.
House Manager, Ushers, Ticket
Takers & Concession staff are scheduled to work a 5.5 hour shift
for your event, this includes set-up before your event and clean-up
afterward. If the Front of House staff are required to work more
than 5.5 hours there will be an additional charge of $75/hr up to
8 hours, over 8 hours there will be a charge of $150/hr.
Ticketing must be done in
a manner approved by Massey in advance. You can use Ticketmaster
or have your tickets printed by Massey and distribute them yourselves.
A charge of $1.50 per patron must be added to the price of any admission
on Massey's behalf. This patron fee is paid by the ticket buyer
and goes to support capital upgrades and endowment fund. For the
purposes of this surcharge no more than 100 complimentary tickets
(there is no surcharge on free tickets) will be allowed. You are
responsible for collecting and remitting the GST on tickets to the
government.
If you're planning an event,
which has no tickets and is free of charge, there will be a minimum
patron fee charge of $200. We must have a signed copy of your contract
and a non-refundable deposit before tickets will be issued.
A non-refundable deposit
- 50% of the rental rate - is required in order to secure your date;
this must be paid at the time of a challenge or at point of contracting
and at least 8 weeks before the performance date. You will also
be required to place a security deposit with us to cover any damage
to the Theatre or other breach of contract; the deposit amount will
vary based on your event. The rental deposit and your security deposit
will be credited to your final invoice. The balance owing and any
additional charges (i.e. overtime hours, equipment rental) detailed
on your final invoice must be paid on the business day prior to
your event.
A certificate of insurance
is required for the event with coverage of two million dollars.
The cost for this is approximately $75.00 and we will be able to
direct you if necessary.
The theatre reserves the
right to hire security personnel for your event, these are charged
at a rate of $25.00/hour per guard and $30/hour per supervisor (subject
to change).
No food or drink may be
served in the theatre by any agency other than Massey Theatre's
concession. Any merchandise sold in the theatre is subject to a
15% commission fee that will be collected by the House Manager on
the night of the show.
Due to fire regulations
put in place by the New Westminster Fire Marshall, no open flame
will be permitted in the theatre.
You and your patrons are
free to use the adjacent school parking lot on a first come, first
served basis provided that vehicles are parked in a designated areas
and are not blocking fire lanes, doorways, loading areas or areas
marked "No Parking". In the event that an illegally parked
car is found on site, Massey Theatre, Moody Park Arena and School
District 40 reserve the right to have any illegally parked vehicles
belonging to the Presenter's organizers, performers, audience members
or invitees towed at their owner's expense.
