Caravan World Rhythms and Iranian Yellow Pages presents

The Masters of Persian Music - Three Generations

Featuring Hossein Alizadeh, the tar (plucked lute) maestro who is considered an inspiration to an entire generation of Iran's musical culture; Kayhan Kalhor, the kamancheh (spike-fiddle) virtuoso who through his many musical collaborations has been instrumental in popularizing Persian music in the West; and the remarkable young vocalist Hamid Reza Nourbakhsh, leading disciple of the renowned Mohammad Reza Shajarian,who will be touring North America for the first time. The ensemble will perform an intimate presentation of music and rhythm that is both an emotional and meditative experience for performer and listener alike.

Cairo Time

Juliette (Patricia Clarkson), a magazine editor, travels to Cairo to meet her husband, a UN official working in Gaza, for a three week vacation. When he is unavoidably delayed, he sends his friend Tareq (Alexander Siddig), who had been his security officer for many years, to escort her throughout the beautiful and exotic city. The last thing anyone expects is that they will fall in love. Screened as a Gala Presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival®, Cairo Time won the award for Best Canadian Film.

In Celebration of Black History Month

Tropical Extravaganza

Celebrate Black History Month by attending 'Tropical Extravaganza' featuring The Israel Lovell Foundation - straight out of Barbados. This dynamic troupe of dancers and steel pan players will be performing their award winning (UNESCO 2004) dance number 'Maafa' which depicts the voyage of the slaves from Africa to the Americas. Other highlights to include jazz vocalist, Alita Dupray; limbo dancer King Fish and contortionist Mr. Fantastik.

REVOLVER is a two-act musical stage play that recaptures the euphoric energy of the music as well as the charm of the Beatles' personalities. Live performances of almost 50 the BEATLES' greatest hits interwoven with personal anecdotes and state-of-the-art multimedia tell the story of the most important band in Rock and Roll.

REVOLVER features Michael Sicoly (Paul McCartney), Mick Dalla-Vee (John Lennon), Skip Prest (George Harrison), and Rocket Norton (Ringo Starr).

Art Matters Society presents

Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues

A series of character-driven pieces, almost like poetry, each revealing a different woman's experience with topics such as: sex, love, tenderness, embarrassment, cruelty, pain, and pleasure. Proceeds go to Westminster House and the Domestic Violence Response Team (NW) and to the Memory March, Vancouver and globally to Women and girls of the Congo.

Royal City Musical Theatre presents

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

The colourful tale of dreamboat Joseph, his uncanny abilities and his designer coat sings out to young and old alike with a score that celebrates and sends up three decades of Western pop culture. Wall to wall hit songs with irresistible hooks include Close Every Door and Any Dream Will Do.

Also expect wit, spectacle, high drama, a children's choir and even an Elvis impersonator. Valerie Easton will both direct and choreograph, with James Bryson returning for his 21st season at the conductor's podium.

A long-time favourite with Massey Theatre audiences, The Maple Leaf Singers are a dynamic show-chorus that delivers a high-energy musical mix, from classical to rock, from ragtime to pop. The 2010 show spans six decades of music, from Gershwin to The Beatles, Billy Joel and The Stray Cats --a program that just might have you dancing in the aisles and will definitely Rock This Town!
